Support and Training

Feel supported, safe and ready for your role.

Child Protection is a diverse and challenging profession, which is why on commencement of your role in the Territory you will be provided the support, training and resources you need to carry out your vital work, as well as ongoing training and education opportunities to develop you in your role. Territory Families, Housing and Communities provides online and face-to-face training tailored to your position, including:

Corporate Induction

You will be invited to attend a two-day Corporate Induction program. This includes key information about the department, including corporate culture; policies; work health safety; your entitlements and obligations, and cultural awareness training. Training is not only fantastic for education and support, but also a great way for new practitioners in the Territory to meet and connect with each other, many of whom have come from interstate and overseas.

Care and Protection Induction

Every Child Protection practitioner starting in the NT will take part in a comprehensive three-week Care and Protection Induction Program. This includes training on emotional intelligence and resilience; the Signs of Safety Practice Framework; investigations and assessment; court and legal processes; working with people with disabilities; trauma-informed practice and case management as well as other sessions.

Online Modules

In addition to our extensive face-to-face induction programs, all new staff complete a range of self-paced online modules as part of our agency orientation. To further develop you in your role, practitioners also have access to a suite of online training courses contextualised to the Northern Territory. We also offer investigative interviewing training at both the foundation and advanced levels.

Funding for Accredited Training

As a practitioner with Territory Families, Housing and Communities you may also be eligible to undertake accredited training such as Graduate Certificates and Graduate Diplomas that are fully funded by the department.
